How to Recover Data from a Crashed Hard Drive?

To recover data, download and install hard drive recovery software on another computer and connect your crashed hard drive to it. Now run the data recovery software and let it list the drives connected. Select your crashed hard drive from the list, and the software starts scanning the drive for the data. Once done, the recovered Outlook.pst file and the other data will be displayed which you can preview as well. Now, save the recovered data on the other hard drive.

How to Import Outlook.pst File

To import Outlook data file, you first have to launch the Outlook in your new computer. Once the MS Outlook is up and running, follow the below mentioned steps based on the Outlook version you are using.

Outlook 2007:

  1. Open the Outlook and on top ribbon, click ‘File’.
  2. Select ‘Import and Export’. This will start the Wizard.

Outlook 2010:

  1. Open the Outlook and on top ribbon, click ‘File’.
  2. Now, select ‘Open’, then ‘Import’. This will start the Wizard.

Outlook 2013 and 2016:

  1. Open the Outlook and on top ribbon, click ‘File’.
  2. Now, select Open & Export’ , then ‘Import/Export’. This will start the Wizard.

From here, the process is same for all versions of Outlook.

  • In the Import & Export Wizard, select ‘Import from another program or File’ and click ‘Next’.
  • Choose ‘Outlook Data File (.pst)’ and click ‘Next’.
  • Now, click Browse, select the .pst file you want to import and click Next. Don’t worry about the other options since you are importing the entire .pst file into a new and fresh Outlook.
  • In the next window, it will ask you what items to import. Just stick to the default option if you want everything to be imported and click on ‘Finish’.

This will start importing all the contents of the .pst file. Once done, the progress will close and you’ll have all your Outlook data imported.
