Every time a file gets deleted on Windows 10, it goes to the Recycle Bin. In fact, the Recycle Bin is more like a filter that stores all the deleted folders and files. You can retrieve deleted files/folders from it at any time later. The files will be restored to their original locations. So if you have accidentally deleted files, then you can recover them.

But did you know that the amount of data stored in Windows 10 Recycle Bin depends on the storage size of the Bin? Yes, deleted files will be stored in Recycle Bin until the storage size is reached. Once the maximum storage size exceeds, then Recycle Bin automatically deletes older files permanently to make space for newly deleted files.

So if you want to keep deleted files in Recycle Bin, then you can increase the maximum storage size for it. Yes, you can do it! Here’s the tutorial which tells you how to change the maximum storage size for Windows 10 Recycle Bin.

Tip: Create a system restore point before resizing the Bin so that if something goes wrong, then you can revert to the previous settings.

• Right-click on Recycle Bin icon on your desktop, click on Properties

• Next, select the local disk i.e. Local Disk C:

• Under Settings for the selected location, you will find an option called Custom size. Here you can set the maximum storage size (in MB).

• Finally, click on Apply to ensure the settings are applied. Then click OK.

That’s it, you’re done!

Note: The maximum storage size of the Recycle Bin location, by default, is 5% of the space available.
